Summer Mission Project

When: Friday and Saturday, July 27-28

from 9:00 am - 4:00 pm, both days

Where: Ministry Center

Forest Hills United Methodist Women invites all church women to join us in a time of hands-on ministry. This summer we will continue to work on parts of the Days for Girls hygiene kits and we will also make Birthing Kits for the United Methodist Committee on Relief.

Days4Girls Hygiene bags include handmade items designed to assist girls in impoverished countries with handling monthly needs, so that they can attend school regularly and get a good education. The project requires some sewing and participants in this project are asked to bring sewing machines, scissors, cutting tools, measuring tape, pins, bobbins, and seam rippers if you have them.

Because of humanitarian needs around the world, UMCOR has expressed a need for Birthing Kits for women in unsanitary environments. Birthing kits provide simple, essential items to promote a safe, clean delivery and to encourage good aftercare, all within a one gallon zip lock bag! You can be a part of saving lives through making and sending Birthing Kits to UMCOR Imagine a baby or a mother surviving because of a simple kit you helped put together – all for less than the cost of a treat at your favorite coffee shop!

Making the birthing kits requires no sewing, simply collecting items, preparing and packaging them. Each person who wishes to make birthing kits is asked to bring two or more 30"x30" or 32"x 32" receiving blankets Other donations that would be appreciated are thin latex or rubber gloves, hotel sized bars of soap in their wrappers, and gallon sized zip-lock bags. Remaining supplies will be provided on site.

Everyone needs to bring:

 - a sack lunch and an optional beverage or snack to share if you like

- a heart for girls and mothers in need and a desire to serve them

How do I sign up? Call Sally Hemingway  or Charlene McAleer (Call church office for number) or watch for a registration spot on the website. You may sign up for just one day or both days, as you wish.
